Al-Mudaifer: “The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ recognition of Ma'aden with the "Responsible Competitiveness Award" confirms our success in adopting sustainability to deliver growth in the Saudi mining sector

Eng. Khalid bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer, President and CEO of the Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma'aden) said that the recognition of Ma'aden by King Khalid Responsible Competitiveness Award is a confirmation of our success in building an integrated system of policies and processes around sustainability. We have adopted sustainability as the foundational basis for the development and growth of our businesses. Al-Mudaifer and seven thousand employees of the company expressed their pride in receiving the recognition of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques with this Award. The Award, which is granted by the King Khalid Foundation, is one of the most prestigious awards in the area of sustainability and business.

According to the Award criteria, Responsible Competitiveness is the ability of the company to build a competitive advantage and apply best practices in supporting sustainable development and contribute to the achievement of the Kingdom's social, economic and environmental development goals. The King Khalid Award supports private sector enterprise adoption of sustainable development practices and initiatives. The Award was awarded to Ma'aden for delivering exceptional projects to develop the workforce as well as applying best practices in the field of sustainability and adopting clear criteria for leading indicators in the field of safety, environment and local community.

Al-Mudaifer said that Ma’aden achieving this Award provides new incentive for further progress and excellence. “We are moving in the right direction to sustain our business not just around Ma'aden, but also to transfer this culture to our partners and customers," he said. Within a decade Ma’aden has validated all its strategies by adopting global standards of sustainability and embedding sustainability across the entire company through effective policies and procedures, instilling values and building a supportive culture, promotion of exemplary practices and the pursuit of excellence in operations. Today, sustainability has become an authentic culture in our business and plays a key role in our growth. This approach is aimed at delivering shareholder value, optimizing national wealth, developing human resources, applying strict health and safety principles, protecting the environment, delivering strong corporate governance, adhering to the principles of social responsibility and partneringp with communities where the company operates.

Al-Mudaifer thanked all Ma’aden partners from both the government and private sectors for their role in the success of the company and the sustainability of its business. Also, he thanked the employees of the company in different divisions and sites for their own efforts and commitment to the company and to sustainability.

He said that Ma’aden, which started its activities in 1997 with an investment in Mahd Al-Dahab mine, has expanded its operations in record time to become one of the world’s top ten mining companies, and the fastest growing company, thanks to the large industrial structure it has built, including Ras Al-Khair and Wa’ad Al-Shamal Industrial cities, where Ma'aden has contributed under the umbrella of the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources. Together, these partners are fulfilling the promise of the mining sector to achieve its objectives under the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 program.
