The Al Amar mine, owned and operated by the Saudi Arabian Mining Company “Ma’aden” was honored last Wednesday by the visit of HRH Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Abdul-Aziz (the Governor of Riyadh Region) and his deputy HRH Prince Turki bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz. These esteemed guests were welcomed by Engr. Khalid Al-Mudaifer (Ma’aden CEO), Engr. Nabil Al-Fraih (Ma’aden Vice President of Gold Business Unit and Human Resources) as well as the Al Amar mine manager, mine employees and laborers.

“All of us at Ma’aden are honored by this visit,” said Engr. Al-Mudaifer “which is a continuation of the support we have enjoyed from the leaders of this nation. This visit reflects the focused attention the private sector has always received from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz and his Crown Prince.”

During his speech Engr Al-Mudaifer reminded guests that the Al Amar mine represents a landmark in the development of the Riyadh Region, through its significant contributions to social and economic development within Al-Quway'iyah Province. Engr Al-Mudaifer assured guests that Ma’aden will continue to move forward in its plans to become a world class minerals enterprise that will not only reflect positively on Saudi industry but also serve its citizens now and in the future.

Engr Al-Mudaifer summarized Ma’aden’s inclusive approach to sustainable operations which seeks to achieve real partnerships with communities surrounding the company’s facilities. Ma’aden spends millions of Riyals and has a successful record of delivering Corporate Social Responsibility programs within the communities around its mines. Ma’aden also plays a significant role in serving citizens of Al-Quway'iyah Province, in terms of offering both employment at the mine and social services in the community. A key part of Ma’aden’s approach to sustainable development is the focus on supporting small and medium businesses around the mine and employing Saudi citizens, with priority given to those qualified applicants from communities near the mine.

The visiting Governor of Riyadh and his entourage were shown a presentation highlighting the potential gold, silver, iron copper, zinc, manganese, magnesium and lead resources to be found in the Arabian Shield geological area in which the Al Amar mine is located.

After a tour by car inside the mine where Prince Khalid was briefed on drilling and the extraction of ore including gold, silver, copper and zinc, he was then shown various processing phases leading up to the pouring of hot molten gold.
