The Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) have entered into an agreement for Ma’aden to join the KAUST Industry Collaboration Program, or KICP, as strategic partner. The KICP network encourages strong research partnerships between KAUST and industry leaders across Saudi Arabia and the world to translate science and technology to the marketplace.
Khalid Al Mudaifer, Ma’aden President and CEO, said “This agreement not only gives Ma’aden access to KAUST’s innovative research, technologies and talent pool but it also provides a collaborative platform upon which Ma’aden can build a pioneering R&D strategy that delivers Saudi solutions to the technology challenges we face as we build a modern and globally competitive mining industry in Saudi Arabia.”
“We are pleased to welcome Ma’aden to the KICP network and look forward to building a partnership that leverages the novel research and innovative ideas of our faculty and students,” said Jean-Lou Chameau, KAUST President.
Abdulaziz Al-Najim, Ma’aden’s Transformation Program Director, pointed out that this partnership will greatly support Ma’aden’s strategy through a program specifically designed to deliver valuable research into minerals exploration and extraction technology. This partnership will support Ma’aden’s operations in remote areas across the Kingdom by addressing key industrial challenges including water scarcity, sustainability, and energy efficiency.
